Joan Carles Sánchez has been the chef-director of Es Portal Hotel Gastronòmic since December 2013, having come from El Portal de Mar, in Torroella de Montgrí. Having trained in restaurants in Catalonia, the Basque Country and at the Aula de Gastronomia de l’Empordà, he claims himself the heir of tavern cuisine at Can Falet, in L’Estartit. He is currently the joint organiser and promoter of several gastronomic conferences in Pals, he collaborates with Girona Excel·lent and the Girona-Costa Brava Tourist Board and is vice president of the Union of Catering and Tourism of Costa Brava Centre.
Laura started out in the world of catering in a small campsite in Calella de Palafrugell, combining her studies with working as a waitress. She later decided to take it up professionally and worked at various hotels and restaurants in the area and in the rest of Catalonia: Can Moragas, Mas de Torrent, Hotel del Teatre, Hotel Cal Tet, Hotel Clipper, La Pleta by Rafael Hoteles, Restaurant Portal de Mar and Restaurant Can Falet. She combined her work with language courses and learning about wines.
